Update, October 15: It's tonight. Salomon Japan's product page is now running a countdown to October 16 at 10:00 AM Japan time, which is Thursday, October 15 at 9:00 PM ET. The Spellbound/Tradewinds/Dark Navy XT-6 Steel Streets is still ¥28,600, it's still tagged for Salomon's own stores only, and sizes run from 22.5 to 31 cm. If you have a Japan address or a friend with one, set an alarm. There's still no word on a US release.
Salomon is taking the XT-6 off the trail and into the city. The new XT-6 Steel Streets pack from Salomon Japan uses 3D mesh and reflective metallic yarn, and Salomon says the idea is to capture the raw energy of city streets. Even the XT-6's Sensifit overlays, the wing-shaped strips that lock your foot in, get a metallic finish.
Salomon Japan lists four colorways, all marked as upcoming and sold only through Salomon's own stores: Spellbound/Tradewinds/Dark Navy, Coyote Brown/Oxford Tan/Black, Urban Chic/Wrought Iron/Black and Cloudburst/Dawn Pink/Nine Iron. Each one is ¥28,600. As reported by Fullress, the Spellbound/Tradewinds/Dark Navy pair (L45472000) releases Friday, October 16 at 10 AM Japan time. No US release has been announced.

Our take: "metallic yarn" sounds like it could get very disco, but in Salomon's photos it looks more like streetlight than mirror ball, and that's the right call. The navy pair is the one for us. Blue mesh with a little steel shine looks like a city at night, and it'll go with every pair of jeans you own. The XT-6 has had a nonstop run of collabs this year, so it's nice to see Salomon do something this sharp in-house. Just know that "own stores only" in Japan usually means these won't stick around long.
