Brain freeze incoming. London label PROTECT has its first-ever collaboration, and it's with Salomon: an ACS NEXXT called "Slushie". Per Sneaker Freaker, it releases Wednesday, October 28 through Salomon and PROTECT's own site.
PROTECT was started in 2022 by Egor Erkin and Peter Fagnoni, and the Slushie comes straight out of their early-2000s childhoods. The base is a red-to-blue gradient, exactly like the cup you got at the corner shop, with white and silver overlays, yellow pull tabs and lace details, and a bright blue midsole. PROTECT's star logo sits on the tongue and heel, a yellow "DOYOURTHING" tab hangs off the back, and the insoles carry drawings the founders made when they were kids.
The ACS NEXXT is still a brand-new Salomon shape. Feid's "The Green Star" helped debut it earlier this fall, so PROTECT is one of the very first outside names to get a crack at it. Price hasn't been confirmed yet, so we'll update this when it is.
Our take: Salomon has stacked a lot of collabs this year, and most of them go muted and technical. This one goes full sugar rush, and that's why it works. It looks like a frozen drink from 2003 in the best way. Just don't wear them to an actual 7-Eleven, because someone will try to put a straw in them.
