Japanese sneaker retailer BILLY'S just got its own Salomon pack. The BILLY'S EXCLUSIVE colorways put the XT-6 PROTECTIVE in Stormy Weather/Dark Navy/Trooper (L45405000) and the XT-WHISPER GORE-TEX in Grisaille/Dark Navy/Black (L45397300). Both release October 23 in Japan, at midnight JST, which works out to 11:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 22. Pre-orders opened on the BILLY'S ENT online store at midnight JST on October 18 and run through October 22, with pairs shipping around the 23rd. The XT-6 is ¥29,700 and the XT-Whisper is ¥26,400.
The two shoes get there in different ways. The XT-6 PROTECTIVE trades the usual airy upper for tough ripstop, and BILLY'S says the new workwear-inspired build is meant to look tough and a little edgy on city streets. The XT-Whisper is the lighter, sleeker one, and here it picks up GORE-TEX so you can keep wearing it whatever the weather does. BILLY'S pitches the drop as treating the city and the outdoors as one continuous field, which is a polished way of saying the same pair should handle your commute and your weekend hike.
Our take: BILLY'S didn't go loud here, and it works. Slate-teal on the XT-6 and a cool blue-grey on the Whisper look exactly like Tokyo in late October: overcast, a little damp, very well dressed. The ripstop XT-6 is our pick. It's the silhouette everyone already knows, now with an upper that looks like it came off a good work jacket. The Whisper GTX is the one you grab when the forecast is lying to you.
BILLY'S is also carrying inline colorways of the XT-6 PROTECTIVE and XT-WHISPER GTX, plus the XT-4 OG GORE-TEX, as part of the same Salomon release. No US release has been announced for the BILLY'S colorways.
