PUMA Celebrates the Knicks' Title With a 53-Pair Clyde “Ceremony,” Out October 14 in Harlem

PUMA Clyde Ceremony with gold World Champs tongue and orange laces beside the PUMA Majesty Ceremony with an orange NYC tongue, on a hardwood floor

Update, Tuesday, October 13, 9:40 AM ET: Still on for tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14 — the PUMA Clyde “Ceremony” (53 pairs only), matching Majesty “Ceremony”, and graphic tee at Foot Locker on 125th Street in Harlem. No online release listed. Price still TBA. For other PUMA, browse the PUMA collection at ONENESS.

Fifty-three years is a long time to wait for anything, and PUMA is making sure nobody in New York forgets the number. As reported by Sneaker News, the brand is celebrating the Knicks' first championship since 1973 with the PUMA Clyde “Ceremony”, and only 53 pairs will exist. One pair for every year of the drought. Somebody in a PUMA meeting room deserves a raise for that one.

The shoe is a fitting call back to Walt “Clyde” Frazier, who helped win that 1973 title and gave PUMA its most famous basketball name. The “Ceremony” is white leather with a royal blue Formstrip, gold eyelets, the gold Clyde script on the side and bright orange laces. The tongue is where it gets loud: a big gold “WORLD CHAMPS” hit topped with three trophies. Around the back, the heel is stamped “of 53,” so every pair reminds you how rare it is. Spare white and blue laces come along for anyone who wants to tone it down. Nobody will.

The Clyde isn't alone. PUMA is also dropping a matching PUMA Majesty “Ceremony” in white leather with grey suede and an orange “NYC” stitched on the tongue, plus a graphic tee. Sneaker News says the Majesty and tee will be easier to get than the Clyde, but still exclusive.

Here's the catch. The whole Ceremony Pack releases Wednesday, October 14, and only at Foot Locker on 125th Street in Harlem. Sneaker News doesn't list an online release, so this is an in-person, uptown thing. Price hasn't been shared yet. If you're not in New York, this one is mostly a very nice thing to look at.

Our take: brands drop “championship” sneakers all the time, but this one actually feels earned. Using Clyde, keeping it to 53 pairs, and selling it uptown instead of on an app is how you do a city moment right. Knicks fans have been told “next year” for five decades. They can wait in one more line.
