Nike is putting Ronaldo's chrome Mercurial back on a running shoe. The Nike Cryoshot Mercurial Vapor 1 OG "Chrome" — listed on SNKRS as Cryoshot Mercurial Chrome '02 OG in Chrome and Hot Lime, style IQ8161-001 — is the metallic silver/volt revival of the early-2000s Mercurial upper, this time sitting on a translucent Cryoshot midsole instead of studs. Retail is $200, and it hits Nike SNKRS on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 10:00 AM ET.
The upper is the whole point: wavy embossed chrome panels, a black Swoosh, Hot Lime lining and heel trim, and that icy clear sole with volt poking through the tread. Nike even leaned into the R9 lore on the packaging — a collector box with a holographic window and a tongue insert stamped with the circular R9 mark — because if you are going to remake a football icon as a lifestyle shoe, you might as well commit to the bit.
Our take: chrome soccer boots were already a lot in 2002; putting that same liquid-metal look on a thick clear runner in 2026 is somehow both nostalgic and slightly unhinged, which is exactly the lane Cryoshot keeps choosing. If you grew up pausing FIFA intros for the silver Mercurials, this is your lottery ticket. If you just want something that photographs like a spaceship on Hot Lime, same ticket.
