Awake NY and The North Face just made 50 Nuptse jackets, and no two are the same. Per Hypebeast, artists Omi and Alehsy Lambo hand-customized each piece in the Awake NY × The North Face Nuptse Customs run, so every jacket is a one-of-one.
The project was first planned as an in-person release at the Awake NY flagship. After a lot of people asked about it, Awake NY held back part of the 50 for an online drop: today, Monday, October 19, at 1 p.m. New York time on Awake NY's site. Hypebeast didn't give a price, and with only a slice of 50 jackets going online, expect them to disappear fast.

The jackets themselves look like airbrushed T-shirt art blown up to puffer scale. The lookbook shows painted portraits across the chest of black-and-orange Nuptses, a spiderweb stretched over an all-black one, a dove across the back of another, and grey-and-black pieces covered in airbrushed machinery. One brown jacket is shown propped on an easel, which is an honest way to admit these are paintings with zippers.

Our take: the Nuptse is one of the most copied jackets on the planet, so the only real way to make one feel rare is to make it impossible to copy. Fifty hand-done pieces does exactly that. It also fits Awake, which has always felt more like a New York art project than a typical brand. The bad news is that you can't pick your favorite. You get whichever one-of-one is still in stock when the page loads, and you might fall in love with a spiderweb you never knew you needed.
At ONENESS: The customs are Awake NY exclusives. If you want a Nuptse that isn't one of 50, the The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse in TNF Black is at ONENESS, along with our Awake NY and The North Face lineups. More Awake on Orbit: Awake NY × Flow Mayor's Hispanic Heritage Month 59FIFTYs.
