Willy Chavarria's run with adidas just got a promotion. After a string of sold-out collabs, the designer is now a creative adviser at adidas Originals, and his first project in the new role is adiSignature, a new everyday apparel line he developed for the brand. Chavarria broke the news in an interview with WWD this morning, and the twist is that his name isn't on any of it. No Willy branding, no co-logo. Just adidas, Trefoil and Three Stripes, done the way he'd do them.
The collection is built on hoodies, crewnecks, sweatpants, T-shirts and track pants, with bold 1980s color blocking, big adidas lettering and the Firebird and SST tracksuits in the mix. WWD says there's also a premium NY block pack that brings back an archival '80s jogging suit. Chavarria told the outlet he spent time at the adidas office in Los Angeles to build it, pulling from the archive and the secondhand racks he's always digging through, and cutting everything roomy so it works across genders. The pitch started small, as a concept, a video and a storyline presented to adidas in Germany, and grew from there. The campaign film was shot and directed by Brianna Capozzi, with styling by Georgia Pendlebury.

The big difference from his collab work is the business model. "The collabs are built with scarcity intentionally," Chavarria told WWD. "AdiSignature is not filled with scarcity. This is for longevity." adidas plans to restock pieces when they sell out, and the prices stay low: House of Heat counts 28 pieces in unisex and women's sizing from about $50 to $120, and Fullress lists the Block Hoodie at $115, the Block Crewneck at $95 and the Block Sweatpants at $100. WWD reports the line launches this Friday, October 23, at adidas.com, adidas stores and select retailers. Some of the first pieces have already shown up on adidas.com, so the full rollout is the part to watch.
Our take: this is the most Willy thing possible. The man behind a run of sold-out collabs and $260 track pants just designed sweats for everybody and then took his name off the tag. These look like the stuff you'd find at the bottom of a 1986 gym bag, which is exactly the point, and Chavarria says he wants them to age so well they turn up on eBay "like 50 years from now, looking so cool and washed-out." Bold plan. If the fits are as roomy as he says, we believe him.
At ONENESS: adiSignature isn't stocked at ONENESS. If you want Chavarria's adidas work with his name on it, we have the adidas Chavarria Megaride 'Mega Willy' in Core Black / Off White, the adidas WC Chavarria CDM Woven TS Track Pant in Black and the adidas WC Chavarria Premium Leather Gym Bag in Black, plus the rest of adidas at ONENESS.
