Hello Kitty has held a lot of jobs over the years, but slot receiver for the Giants is a new one. Per House of Heat, Anti Social Social Club and Sanrio are dropping an Anti Social Social Club × Hello Kitty NFL collection of team-branded hoodies, tees and caps on Saturday, October 17, through ASSC's website and Sanrio.
The formula is simple and it works. ASSC's stacked four-line logo runs down the back, Hello Kitty sits in the middle in full team uniform with a football tucked under her arm, and a little "Hello Kitty ♥ [team]" sign-off lands near the hem. The lookbook covers the Giants, Cowboys, Lions, 49ers and Packers across hoodies, tees and caps, and House of Heat calls out an Eagles piece with Kitty in Philly green under oversized ASSC branding. Our take: ASSC has never been subtle. The brand name is the whole joke. Putting that next to the world's friendliest cat and some of the angriest fan bases in America is funny on purpose, and it lands. The royal-blue Giants hoodie is the cleanest piece here. The navy Cowboys hoodie will sell out to people who plan to argue about it in the comments. And since Hello Kitty famously has no mouth, she's the only person at a Cowboys game who won't yell at the refs.
This isn't ASSC's first run with Kitty, either. Its ASSC × Hello Kitty World Champ capsule hit the ASSC site in August with a $55 tee and a $99 hoodie. Pricing for the NFL pieces hasn't been listed yet, and no drop time has been announced, so keep an eye on ASSC's site Saturday morning.
Update, October 16: One day to go. ASSC's NFL drop page is up, but when we checked around 1:30 PM ET neither ASSC nor Sanrio had loaded the Hello Kitty NFL pieces, prices or a drop time yet. One small wrinkle: House of Heat's release listing now says October 18, while its story still says the 17th. So check ASSC's site Saturday morning, and if the shelf is still empty, don't panic until Sunday.
