Nike's Halloween Air Force 1 finally has a date, and it showed up with a bag of pins. The Air Force 1 '01 "Nightmare" in Black and Gym Red is now on the SNKRS calendar for Friday, October 23 at $140, style code IX0104-001. Nike's launch page sums it up in two sentences: pins split the black leather upper to reveal Gym Red details, and a black-on-black midsole and outsole finishes it off. Then it signs off with "Let's raise some hell." Subtle, Nike. Very subtle.
If that line sounds familiar, you've probably seen Hellraiser. Nike first showed the shoe on October 6 in its SNKRS Verified preview of upcoming Air Force 1s and only described it as a nod to "vintage cinema tropes." Sneaker News took one look at the evenly spaced metal studs and the red grid between them and called it Pinhead. Nike still hasn't said the name out loud, but between the pins and the "raise some hell" caption, it's not exactly hiding the ball.
The shoe itself is cleaner than the backstory. It's a black leather '01 with thin red seams running across the upper like a map, little silver pins wherever two lines meet, a red-lined collar and tongue, and a red Swoosh outline that almost disappears into the black. The SNKRS campaign photos above keep it simple too: a pair sitting on granite steps and an on-foot shot with black socks. Nobody is wearing a mask, which we appreciate.
Our take: horror sneakers usually go one of two ways. Either they look like a costume you can only wear one week a year, or they look like a regular shoe with a scary name stapled on. This one lands in a better spot. From across the room it reads as a murdered-out AF1 with some hardware. Up close, the pins and the red grid tell the story. It works on October 31 and it still works in February, which is more than you can say for most Halloween drops. The one real question is how the studs feel after a full day, so we'll wait for try-ons before promising anyone a comfortable night out in these.
