Clarks Originals has a new collab, and this one comes with a little homework. Paris label Wasted Paris teamed up with Clarks on a blacked-out Wallabee Lite that's made to be decorated by whoever buys it. Hypebeast reports it drops October 15 through Wasted.
The theme is Britpop. In the mid-to-late '90s, the Wallabee showed up everywhere that scene did: pubs, indie gigs, football terraces and backstage. Fans covered their jackets and bags with badges and souvenirs, and Wasted wants you to treat your shoes the same way. Each pair comes with a set of interchangeable pins you can clip onto the upper wherever you like, plus a guitar pick and a Wasted x Clarks fob that hangs from the laces. One of the pins says "Common People," so yes, they know exactly what they're doing.
Under all the flair, the shoe is black suede from top to bottom, with a tonal lion on the vamp that you only really notice when the light hits it. There's a spare pair of blue laces in the box if all-black feels too serious. The box is part of the deal too. It's a custom square box with a photograph by Kevin Cummins, whose pictures helped define how Manchester's music scene looked.

Our take: most Wallabee collabs mean a new color or a fancier suede. This one's more fun because it hands the last step of the design to you, so no two pairs have to look alike. That's the most Britpop thing about it. One friendly warning: pins and suede aren't best friends, so pick a layout and commit. Wasted has worked across indie music, skating and vintage culture since 2012, so this feels like a natural fit, not a marketing exercise. Clarks brings about two centuries of shoemaking that started in a workshop in Street, Somerset.
