The New Balance 990v7 has finally stopped playing hide and seek. After a Chinatown billboard, a Tokyo festival cameo and a jog through Manhattan on Rosalía, the seventh-generation Made in USA runner now has official product shots, a name and a date. The launch pair is the 990v7 "Kool Grey" (style U990GR7, Kool Grey/Calcium/Light Arctic Grey), and it's set for November 6, 2026 via newbalance.com and select retailers, with Sneaker News citing New Balance Japan for the date. Expected US price is $200, per FN and Complex, though New Balance hasn't put a US price in writing yet.
The big change is that the 990 looks like a 990 again. The v6 ditched the classic midfoot saddle for a smoother, almost futuristic shape. The v7 brings back proper layering: light grey suede around the toe, heel and eyestays, darker grey suede framing the midfoot, grey mesh underneath. The "N" gets bigger, in proportions that will remind 990v3 fans of the good old days, filled pale blue with a soft yellow outline that repeats on the midsole. Cream laces and "990v7" insoles finish it. Underfoot it keeps FuelCell, adds ENCAP branding and a new TPU shank.

Our take: this is the most "dad who owns a pressure washer" a 990 has looked in years, and we mean that as a compliment. The pastel blue and butter-yellow hits keep it from being just another grey shoe, and the return of the overlays fixes the one complaint people had about the v6. If $200 holds, that's the same price the v6 started at, which in 2026 is basically a discount. The rest of the 990v7 lineup is still to come, so this grey pair is the one everybody will be chasing first.
