Update, October 15: Reminder — the NEPENTHES official feature still lists the release for Saturday, October 17 in Japan, in store at NEPENTHES Tokyo, Osaka and Hakata, the NEPENTHES WOMAN shops and SOUTH2 WEST8 Sapporo. Saturday morning in Japan is Friday night, October 16, on the East Coast. Prices are unchanged: Track Jacket ¥29,700, Track Pant ¥24,200, B.B. Jacket ¥77,000, Roll Neck Cardigan ¥107,800. No online or overseas release has been announced, so this is still a Japan in-store drop. The collab isn't in the ONENESS catalog — Needles at ONENESS.
Some collabs need a long explanation. This one needs about three words: Needles, Tribe, track suit. NEPENTHES, the Japanese company behind Needles, announced a NEEDLES × A Tribe Called Quest capsule on its official site on October 9, and it drops Saturday, October 17. If you've spent any time in a good record shop, you already know half the people in there are wearing Needles track pants. Now the pants come with a soundtrack.
The piece everyone will be talking about is the B.B. Jacket (¥77,000). It's a black jacket with red and green rib trim, and across the back sits a fuzzy chenille patch of the The Low End Theory cover, the red-and-green figure from Tribe's 1991 album, with the title stitched in green beside it. The album turned 35 this year. Not a bad way to celebrate a birthday.
Then there's the uniform. The Track Jacket (¥29,700) and Track Pant (¥24,200) are classic Needles in black, with the usual side stripes switched to red and green. The jacket has the group's circular logo, little stick figures and all, embroidered big across the back. The pant gets the Needles butterfly over a small “ATCQ” on the leg. Quiet from the front, loud from behind.

And for anyone who thinks a track suit is too low-key, there's the Roll Neck Cardigan (¥107,800), a heavy knit in jagged red, green and black stripes with a round butterfly patch on the chest. It is not a cardigan for hiding in the back of the room. It's the most expensive piece in the drop and easily the boldest.
Here's where to find it. NEPENTHES lists its stores in Tokyo, Osaka and Hakata, its NEPENTHES WOMAN shops, and SOUTH2 WEST8 in Sapporo for the release, and Fullress also reported the October 17 date. NEPENTHES hasn't confirmed an online release or anything outside Japan yet, so for now this is a Japan in-store drop. The lookbook was shot by Akira Yamada and styled by Shota Iigaki, and it's all red, green and black backdrops, as it should be.
Our take: brands love putting a rap group's logo on a hoodie and calling it a day. This one actually feels thought out. Tribe's colors line up perfectly with Needles' stripes, and the B.B. Jacket is the kind of piece people will still be wearing when the album turns 40. Can I kick it? Yes, you can. If you're in Japan on the 17th.
